Hello out there fellow nortonians ! Hoping that you can give me advice cocerning my 1972 750 commando. My headlite dims when rpms lower and when i hit the brakes.I am considering replacing battery however the machine always kicks over on 1st kick, so maybe a new battery is not needed. I was wondering if just replacing the ROTOR with a new STOCK one would do the trick without getting an entire new spark hiout put system or rm23 or 24? set up, I read somewhere that rotors lose magnetism?? can the be "re-magnitized" ??? Would a new stock rotor increase output significantly? thanks in advance for your thoughts, flying ace

In all honesty, I would highly suggest you keep a very careful eye on the rotor, since they are prone to flying apart from both, over revving, and from acceleration pulses that the 72 combat can exagerate. Just a new rotor will only get you normally 10-20%max sometimes NO improvement, if the old one was OK. The rotors do sometimes loose a bit of magnetism over time. They would be difficult to remagnetise due to the highly specialized fixture required. I have not felt there enough commercial demand to fabricate the fixture required. The better thing is to go for the 180w single phase or 180w 3 phase stator. They are still reasonably priced at RGM in england. I bought several 3phase from them and have the lucas logo on them. You will get an improvement no matter what......however the 3 phase needs mods/additions to the charging system. Well worth it though.
