i have been cleaning cars and doing odd jobs for a local doctor, and he has an old norton he wants to get running. i believe he said it is a '67, but i dont see a year or model number anywhere. i have some experince with other bikes, so i figured id see what i could do. bike looks pretty good overall, oil leak from the right side engine cover, no rust.
oil tank was low so i put in a few quarts of 30w, cleaned up the carbs and put iin some fresh gas. spark was good so i gave it a few kicks- vroom!!! i was super excited so i dropped it in gear and took it down the driveway and back, ran strong and shifted well. when i got back up to the house, it started to die out when i released the throttle, and i was going to try messing with the carb screws and it died out on me before i could. it was then that i noticed that i had left an oil streak all down the driveway and back! the oil was coming from the overflow on the oil tank- checking the level it was apparent that i had put a bit too much oil in- causing it to puke out?
when i tried to start it back up the first kick turned the engine and subsequent kicks seem like the starter is not engaging or something? just rotates freely and the engine doesnt turn. this is how i left it- if i would wait for a few minutes then a kick would seem to weakly turn the engine but subsequent kicks wouldnt do anything.
any ideas? where do i start? is this a kicker problem, a clutch problem, or a primary problem?
