I'm sure you can find other web sites. How about crabbyoldpricks.net?
I read this kind of crap in the Norton News from time to time. Sombody does a story on the featherbed, and gets some snivleing little detail wrong, and is castigated by somebody who thinks it is a "Kommando Klub". Like Commandos or not, they were the model that really put Norton on the radar screen for many riders. Maybe this guy gets his jollies by atteding some boring concours event, and arguing about the proper weave in a '52 Inter cloth wiring harnes, I don't know. The thing I like about the Commando bunch, is that they ride, yes RIDE the damn things. They improve, remake, redo, whatever it takes. A Combat at 7,000 rpm is one of life's great things. Don't whine about the fact you don't get it!! I love all Nortons, and the fact you don't is just too damn bad.

Frustrated,

My question for you is: Are you from the US, UK, or another location? The reason I ask is that in the US, the Commando is the dominant Norton model, primarily due to availability and its compatibility with our roads (IMO). I believe the UK and Western Europe have traditionally had greater access to the other models. This is of course from personal observations not hard import numbers. The US seems to have seen its Norton boom starting in the mid/late 60's and peaking with the Commando. As a member of the NOC and INOA I see great differences in the content of these two Clubs. I do not know what the ratios for nationalities for this group are, but if it is dominated by those of us in the new world, the reasons for commando talk may be what we have available for riding.

As an Englishman, I think I have to say that the US probably has to take responsibility for this chap. I have never heard anyone from UK refer to "weanies" What does it mean exactly?

By the way, I am looking for a rear brake pedal and toolbox for a WD 16H. Must be 1939 type. Oh, and if anyone's got a camshaft motor for less than $1000 and... Well, actually I like them all, apart from Lightweights (Yes, had a Navigator - Not impressed !). Don't think much of the rotary stink-wheel things either.

There, that feels better now I've got it off my chest.

My pet hate really is people who take themselves too seriously.(He says, carefully avoiding mentioning Gold Wing and Harley owners)

Rich
