"Link to New Zealand Classic Racing Site."
|
Hi guys,
A Happy New Year. Not too many postings at the moment so I thought I would give you some entertainment from the hot and sunny Southern Hemisphere.
Here is a link to the new webpage for the New Zealand Classic Racing Register. Has a few photos of Nortons in the photo gallery.
For those Commando enthusiasts out there who want some competion look at the two ES2s # 61 and 64. These two bikes are ridden by a father and son team. No 61 has been clocked at 115 mph using police radar on the back straight of the Pukekohe Race circuit. No fairing and in road race gearing. Not bad for an ES2 !! Probably the quickest 500s in NZ Clubmans racing however a friend of mine is also keeping them honest with a Velocette Venom.
I think this Norton is at the Australian Classic meeting at Phillip Island this weekend. Both machines are Clubmans rules so all major components are pre 1963, single side brakes, magento ignition, 4 speed box, no modern carbs, standard bore and stroke. But they do have twin plug heads, belt primary drives and lots of good stuff inside.

Thanks for link John. Interesting pics - looks a little damp ?.
ES2 pic was a little hard to find
Interestingly, in Oz a very fast ES2 is No 63. Not quite the same rules though - has a fairing. Be interesting to see if they meet...
Cheers, Rohan.

Hi Rohan
They also have a modified class ES2 as well with faring etc, on Methanol. With Greg Pitches riding it they got about a third against the INCA bikes (Cronshaw, English et al) a couple of years ago at Pukekohe.
