hello, i posted a question about an older bike which i have, and a couple of weeks ago you responded asking for numbers so you could tell me what year and model it is. my computer has been down for the past two weeks. anyway here are the numbers which i could find on the bike. Brit 557982 and on the frame EL/I 36. i hope this helps you and that you can help me. thank you for anything you can find out.

Red,

Is this a Norton? Are you saying "Brit" is stamped on the engine? EL/I 36 on the frame has no meaning from any of my Norton publications.

David,
went and looked at the numbers myself. the brit is on the plate on the front forks and says it is a patent number. the other number is el/536 and is stamped on the right side of the frame and on the left side of the engine block. there is a plate on the forks which says "Norton Motorcycles Roadholder". someone from canada says he thinks that it is a 1963 'Navigator'. does this sound reasonable to you? if so, any idea what it would be worth? thanx.

"el" you say? Does it have an electric starter? Could be an Electra.

Here is a Navigator:

And an Electra:

Note the difference in the rear wheel.

Hi Red,

I agree with Derek. It sounds like you have a '63 Electra. These were not very popular in North America. There seems to be a following now, probably because the model is getting old and rarer. I'm not the one to ask about it's value as this model is the only basket case I've ever thrown in a dumpster.
