Allright, I'm a belt drive kit (very nice) onto my buddy's 71 commando but he's got an aftermarket ignition setup on it. There aren't any installation instructions with the kit and my other friend who installed one said it bolts right on.

My question is:

the bike came to me (I didn't put the ignition in) with a funny collar like spacer under the rotor. The belt drive sprocket has a recess and then a 1/8" thick 3" diameter cover/guide plate that goes on before the rotor - this goes where the old chain sprocket had the larger spacer. Do I leave this out & play with the shims to get the rotor lined up with the stator?
