The book shows a porthole in the side cover for replacing the clutch cable (mine broke). My cover has no porthole. I removed the cover and found that the mechanism with the three balls that pushes the clutch rod through to the clutch side of the engine is not like the one in my manual.
The cable slips through a notch in the end of the tongue of the 3-ball mechanism in my book. The tongue is twisted 90 degrees so there is no kink in the cable, once attached. Designed thusly, one can remove the large screw in the porthole and (relatively) easily replace the cable
On my bike, without the porthole, the tongue is not twisted, and the cable bends 90 degrees where it goes through the hole in the tongue. The problem is that the tongue does not have the slot for the cable to slip through. There is a brass bushing inside the hole, and the cable somehow goes through that bushing. The bushing has no slot, either.
It appears I need to replace the cable and the 3-ball mechanish as a unit, but thar doesn't make engineering sense.
I hope my description of these parts is good enough for someone familiar with the clutch cable replacement on this model to help me.

You have an older model tranny cover. Hard to work weith, as are the older style primary cover with no window for strobe timing...
