I know this is isn't a Norton, but I hope someone here has an idea.

First let me start by saying that I am pretty mechanically inclined as far as moving parts. I will admit however that I am no electrician. I am working on a 72 Triumph T 120 V Bonneville 650. The bike is in all original condition. I believe that the last time it was ridden was sometime in the very early 80's. The owner claims it ran when it was parked. About 5 years ago we hooked it up to a battery charger and there was spark and everything seemed okay. Since that time it has sat pretty much untouched. I installed a new battery and I believe that it is connected correctly (positive terminal to ground/frame). The problem is that everytime I put in a new fuse it blows instantly. I have checked for bare wires and I have cleaned the ground connection.

Could the problem be the zener diode? I have never really worked on anything British except for my dad's old Triumph Herald car.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Instead of a fuse...jury rig a tail light bulb in its place and start yanking things until you find the shorted component or circuit.
(light goes out)
