"headlight upgrade (!?!)"

Hi there....first ever post!
I need a recommendation on a headlight upgrade for my 71 tiger TR6R.
Currently running a sealed beam (koitto) but would like more light!
Can I use a halogen sealed beam or would that tax the (already suspect) charging system? Bike has brand new harness by the way.
Any ideas welcome. Thanks!

A Halogen sealed beam should be OK,as it does not require any more power to operate than a standard bulb. The fluting of the lens and depth of the parabola(back part) do the focussing of the beam, Halogen just makes it a little brighter. More important is the charging system. There are a lot of upgrades available there. A good battery or/and a capacitor system are necessary to provide enough power at lower RPM to run both the lights and the engine. A good Zener Diode or regulator are needed to prevent overcharging and blowing out lights at higher speeds. Hence the name "Prince of Darkness". Pat

As well as upgrading your charging system, you can make what watts your system produces go a little further, by fitting an LED tail light. The rear and stop draw less than a watt together I believe. You can get them from Paul Goff, in 6V and 12V.
