"BSA A50 identification"

I bought a chopped 65 A50 with an A65 engine and I wanted to know where the VIN should be stamped. This bike has it on the left side of the steering neck (it matches the title) but 3 out of 4 of my A65's are on the left front engine mounting lug, the 4th is on the left side of the steering neck.My B44 and B50 are also on the steering neck. Was there a proper place for them or did they jut go "wherever". I've been out of British bikes since I sold my 75 Trident, so it's like starting over. Any guidance would be appreciated. Pat
