"BSA A65 Tappets and clips"

I was wondering about the clips that retain the tappets in the cylinders. Is their ONLY function to keep the tappets in place while assembling the cylinders to the engine cases? I just don't like the fact that these little pieces of wire are there with the possibility of perhaps coming off and being able make their way into the engine cases of a running motor. Am I worrying about nothing??? Has anyone ever had problems because of these?

They are a pain to install also. I do not have the recommended factory tool.....but I made something to help with the installation. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions that may help me?

I had an idea that "O' rings could be used to keep the tappets from falling out..... and once installed.... could be removed.

Tell me what you think..... thank you, Richard
