"Primary drive chain"


          

I building a '49 Norton Model 7 with an Atlas 750cc engine. Someone has recommended that to eliminate oil dripping from the primary chain case, I should use a 420 o-ring chain for the primary drive and not put any oil in the chain case. Does anyone have any comments as to the wisdom of this course of action.

I would highly recommend learning tin knocking to close up the primary. From what I've heard, only short bursts such as club racing will the chains survive between oilings/greasings.
IMO a belt drive inside a tin cover would be much more preferable.
