I have a 74 / 850 commando and have searched a few sites looking for the best primary belt drive conversion kit, there are quite a few distributers and the prices range from $400 - $1200. who's got the best one for the best price and are there any other special modifications I need to make before I put it on ? What is the reason for the dramatic price differences?

The belt drives that use stock internals are the cheapest and work very well on street bikes. I have several norvil ones.
Some of the pricey ones have special plates and jack the price way up.
The wider belts for race run the price up also since the wider belts cost more and are necessary to stand up to the heat they generate in operation.
There is a big misconception that these run "dry".
Unless you put one of my clutch rod seals they WILL eventually start to drag and slip.
One seller of belt drives used to automatically include a CRS as part of the kit...however he is no longer in business for norton parts

Howdy!, i just purchased one from commandospecialties,with shiping,right at 400.00 ,i have yet put it on ,but it looks like it should hold up. they say with no mod. we;ll see an get back with ya. i my-self am haveing a head problem. i have a 72 lower end,trying to use an early atas head with no over head oiler holes! how did they get oil to the top end? wish you luck in your search,Mr. Muck!
